Food is such a big part of how we celebrate Christmas. Here at The Cornwall we’ve been planning menus and sourcing ingredients for months, making sure that everything is perfect for festive feasting. What food is on offer here this Christmas? And if you’re self-catering, what local goodies should you be looking out for?
We have a range of exciting offers at the hotel this Christmas – and naturally, food features largely! Christmas Day itself is going to be beyond delicious. Have a look at the menu to see what our Head Chef and his team have planned for Christmas lunch at The Cornwall. Of course, there will be turkey (local) with all the trimmings, and other highlights include the Cornish rib eye of beef, and a delectable pan-fried fillet of bass. The vegetarian option is a wild mushroom Wellington (the days of the ubiquitous nut roast are definitely over!). We’re particularly excited about the deserts – dark chocolate tart with blood orange sorbet please! And of course, champagne, canapés, and mince pies will be popping up throughout the day.
Eating out for on Christmas Day is not for everyone, so why not join us on another occasion over Christmas? The restaurants will be serving festive-inspired food throughout the holidays – and you’re always welcome at The Parkland Terrace for a mulled wine in front of the fire! In the run-up to Christmas, we’re hosting Santa’s Sunday Lunches for families – and guess who’ll be popping in…
If you’re staying on one of our self-catering Woodland Homes this winter, or perhaps you’re the host at home this year, what festive Cornish produce should you be looking out for? For the main Christmas meal, Wadebridge-based Banbury’s have delicious hand-reared bronze and white turkeys. If you’d like a change, try a deliciously gamey free-range chicken from The Cornish Chicken Company in West Cornwall, or a Cornish duck from, well, Cornish Duck. For the trimmings, Primrose Herd sells superb bacon and sausages.
A range of meat is also available at one of our lovely local farm shops, Lobbs, near The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Lobbs sells everything you could want for a festive feast – pickles, chutneys, smoked fish, chocolate, Cornish beers, ciders, and wines…If you’re self-catering with us this Christmas, this could be your local one-stop-shop.
St Kew Farm Shop near Wadebridge sells vegetables grown in their own fields; and a bit further west, the mighty Trevaskis Farm has an amazing selection of their own fruit and veg, and some great pork from their own pigs (and a cafe that does Cornwall’s biggest portions of cake). And don’t forget to add a splash of Camel Valley’s finest…!
A Cornish Christmas looks set to be a delicious, food-filled one. To find out more about what’s on offer at The Cornwall, to book the restaurant, or book accommodation, please contact us. We hope to celebrate with you this season!
