Cornwall is home to lots of welcoming independent shops, many dotted among the winding lanes of seaside towns and villages. For a wide variety of unique Cornwall boutiques, head for Fowey, Mevagissey, and Padstow. St Ives is the place to shop for art, or pop across the Penwith Peninsula to Penzance for quirky vintage and handmade Cornish gifts.
Our larger towns, Truro and Falmouth, are great places for Christmas shopping. Both places have a large selection of high street stores as well as independent shops, and look out for their regular markets.
There are lively Christmas markets at Padstow, Porthleven and Fowey, which attract some of the best Cornish artisans. Truro hosts Christmas markets throughout December: try to catch the late-night shopping evenings on Wednesdays, when the city comes alive with lights and the atmosphere is extra-festive.
If you’re searching for Cornish gifts from out of the county, don’t worry: many of our local suppliers will ship their wares (just be aware of timescales if you’re shopping for Christmas or Easter gifts).
Cornwall is famous for its food and drink, and local produce makes a fantastic present. You can even send your upcountry friends a Warrens pasty or cream tea in the post! There are all sorts of Cornish goodies that can easily be posted out of county: treat friends and family to Trenance Chocolate, Tarquin’s Gin or traditional Cornish fudge.
If you’re shopping for Cornish food that can be hand-delivered, farm shops such as our local Lobbs are treasure troves of Cornwall-produced treats, condiments and drinks.
How about gifting an experience rather than a present this year? If you’re shopping for locals or for friends who have a Cornwall holiday planned, a voucher for a unique Cornish experience makes an excellent gift.
Send a voucher for an art course at St Ives School of Painting or buy them gift membership for the Eden Project. With so many fascinating sites in Cornwall, National Trust membership makes a great gift for both local friends and regular visitors. For adventurous folk, pick up vouchers for Hangloose Adventures at Eden or look out for gift offers from the local surf schools and outdoor pursuits centres.
Are you looking for a truly unusual present, one that you wouldn’t find anywhere but Cornwall? Try The Great St Ives Pasty Dash board game, which is a must for anyone who loves this seaside town (and pasties).
The Cornish Seaweed Bath Company is an original take on natural beauty products, or try handmade jewellery with a Cornish feel from St Justin or Lucy Kemp Jewellery. For a wonderful selection of Cornish books, head for The Edge of the World Bookshop in Penzance or Shrew Books in Fowey.
If you’re looking for eco-friendly Cornish gifts, there’s a lot of great sustainable brands to choose from. Pure Nuff Stuff sells a wide range of natural beauty products, or search for Falmouth’s Cornish Skin Food on Facebook. St Eval makes beautifully scented candles and diffusers using sustainable products and methods.
There are some wonderfully innovative green companies in Cornwall. Oh Give Us A Break makes gorgeous bags from discarded windbreaks, while Waterhaul uses marine rubbish to craft stylish sunnies. Circular & Co from Perranporth make great-looking reusable cups from reused materials.
And then there’s The Cornwall… Treat someone to some me-time with a voucher for The Cornwall Hotel & Spa. You can buy a voucher for a spa treatment or afternoon tea in our elegant tea rooms, or for a truly special treat, for a stay at The Cornwall. Our vouchers make wonderful thoughtful gifts for both local friends and visitors to Cornwall.
