Helston Flora Day is a Helston tradition since 1826! Helston, Cornwall has long been known for its May Day celebrations and Helston Flora day is the event of the year. Helston’s ‘Furry Dance’ takes place on Mayday morn at dawn around St John's Bridge where townspeople dance in traditional costumes to bring good luck.
For many years Helston celebrated with maypole dancing across two days but today there are just over six hours of fun packed into one big celebration that starts off with an early morning parade through Helston before heading to the main festival site which includes live music performances throughout the day while visitors enjoy local food, drink and crafts stalls.
